世界第2位（注1）のPCサーバプロバイダであるDellは、サーバー及びワークステーションにRed Hat Linuxをサーバーおよびワークステーションにプレインストールして出荷した最初の大手システムベンダでした。本日の発表により、Dellは全サーバー製品にRed Hat Linuxをプレインストールする最初の大手システムベンダとなります。これによりPowerEdgeブランドは、インターネットをベースとするビジネスを構築するプラットフォームとして、ますますその価値が高まりました。オペレーティングシステムをプレインストールすることで、各サーバーを顧客の要望に合わせてカスタマイズすることが可能になります。システムが納品されてすぐにインストールと設置ができるので、時間と経費が削減できます。DellはいくつかのワークステーションとデスクトップPCにも、Red Hat Linuxをプレインストールいたします。

本日発表された世界規模でのサービスおよびサポート契約は、DellとRed Hatにとっても初の試みです。契約内容には、Dellの顧客に対して無料または割り引きのサービスおよびサポートを提供し、よりよい環境で使用できるようサポートすることが含まれています。この契約により全世界のDellの顧客は、世界主要都市にてRed Hat Linuxのサポートおよびサービスを受けることができるようになり、より質の高いサービス、サポートの享受が可能になりました。Linuxのサービスとサポート強化の一環として、Red Hatはヨーロッパ、中東、アフリカ、日本、アジア太平洋地域でサポートを提供するカスタマーサポート・センターを続々と開設しています。
これら新しいリソースでは、PowerEdgeサーバーの顧客に対して、現地の言葉でRed Hat Linuxのサポートを提供します。この契約によりDellの顧客は、Red Hat Linuxに対する90日間無料のWebおよび電話によるサポート、必要に応じてインストールのサポートを含めたレッドハット・プロフェッショナル・サービスの割引、180日間無料でシステム管理者に新しいOSバージョンやパッチを電子メールで自動的に通知するサービスを受けることができます。
戦略的提携関係の強化に加えて、DellとRed Hatは、Dell PowerEdgeサーバーと関連周辺機器でRed Hat Linuxが最適に動作するように、エンジニアリングに専念します。全てのDell PowerEdgeサーバーは、Red Hatのテストにより承認されており、開梱した時点ですぐに使用できるようになっています。
