MeP is reconfigurable microprocessor core developed by Toshiba. It can be freely customized according to user requirement. Using this flexibility, MeP can be used in many different applications while providing very high cost performance solutions.
With Toshiba's support, Red Hat has developed embedded development tools, GNUPro for Toshiba MeP.
MeP is designed
to meet the needs of custom module
SoC , which would process
various digital signals such as video, image, audio and network.
MeP is capable of optimizing its configurations and adding
application-specific extensions such as user-custom instructions
and a VLIW coprocessor. The configurability and the expandability
of MeP enable rapid and low cost development of high-performance
SoC.
GNUPro is Red Hat's commercial software development suite of tools that is built around the open source GNU standard, such as compiler (GCC) and debugger (GDB). GNUPro toolchain is an integrated commercial toolsuite, which Red Hat has tested and released for commercial software development of both desktop and embedded applications.
Add to basic GNU tools, GNUPro for MeP contains the tools to
support the configurability and expandability of MeP; a
configuration tool called MeP-Integrator
and a instruction
set simulator SID
for MeP. With GNUPro for MeP, you can
develop the MeP core optimized for your own purpose by repeating
the process of reconfiguration, simulataion, tests, and progfilings.
